Approximately 2 miles south of Atlantic City stands Lucy the Elephant, a 90-ton sculpture of wood and tin. Lucy is six stories high and was built by James Lafferty in 1881. James wished to promote the idea of animal shaped buildings. Lucy served as a hotel and a tavern, but now visitors may tour her insides and see some maritime artifacts and a view of the area.
